JoomlaPack Developers proudly announces the immediate availability of the latest 1.2.b2 release of our backup component for Joomla!-powered sites, JoomlaPack. This release is the product of the team's hard work in combination with the invaluable feedback from our user base.

This is Release Candidate quality software. We consider it stable enough for daily use. However, not all bugs might have been ironed out. If you feel uncomfortable using beta software and you don't need the bug fixes or new functionality introduced with this version, do not upgrade yet.

There is a known problem with GoDaddy hosted sites. On those sites the ZIP creation does not work. Please use JPA instead.

• Back up files and database content in a single archive; an embedded installer will take care of restoring the backup in a process similar to the familiar Joomla! installation.

• Flexible backup and restore choices

  • Create standard ZIP or high-efficiency renowned JPA format archives

  • Use our Kickstart helper script to unpack the archive directly on the target host

  • Chose between a modified standard Joomla! Installer or one of our custom installers for restoring your site to a fully working state in a matter of 5 minutes flat!

• Adapt database content dump to support MySQL 4, even if your site runs on a MySQL 5 database

• AJAX technology makes backing up large sites hassle-free even on very restrictive PHP environments, e.g. free or shared hosts. Alternatively, a JavaScript Redirects method is supported for non-AJAX capable browsers.

• You can use it even with forced SSL back-end access, for increased security.

• Automate your backups with the ability to perform controlled unattended backups from the front-end.

• Chose what parts of the site to exclude from the backup set:

  • Skip directories with non-site content (e.g. logs, third-party scripts) or with files you'd rather backup differently (e.g. large media files)

  • Skip single files, like a large video file in a media directory, or a host-specific configuration file on your site's root

  • Skip whole database tables, for instance tables belonging to a forum or another Joomla! Installation, but residing in the same database as your site's database.

• Special interest features:

  • Forcibly backup databases foreign to your Joomla! installation, like a forum database or a third-part script's database. If you need it, you know what this is and how useful it can be.

• Manage backup log files and backup archives from within the component.
